We'll look into the reasons why we SHOULD start a podcast in a moment, but lets' have a look at the reasons why we DON'T start a podcast first.
Because, let's face it, the reasons for starting a podcast are fairly obvious – and compelling – but most people still avoid doing it. Our founder, I, had already been blogging for four years when she decided to start a podcast but it still took her months to record the first episode and even longer to actually publish anything.
The main reasons people don’t start a podcast are:
- They don’t think they have anything to say
- If they do have something to say, they're not sure how to say it
- They don't like the sound of their voice
- The thought of learning how to use all that new technology and all those apps is intimidating
- They don’t think anyone will listen and/or they don't have an audience
- They don't have the time
- Pure procrastination
Up to 80% of podcasts never get beyond the 10th episode, and the reasons are none of the above. Most podcasters give up for one of two reasons:
- The creators don’t have a clear idea of WHY they’re producing a podcast, or
- It takes up far more time than they ever thought possible.
Do your research and get yourself clear on why you're doing this BEFORE you start and you'll have a huge advantage over most other would-be podcasters.
